World War II 'The Blaenafon Experience' Schools Project. This project has been well attended by local schools. The Blaenavon Community Heritage & Cordell Museum has worked closely with the North Torfaen Heritage Group. The schools are given lectures on the history of World War II, healthy eating and food rationing. The school children are in Blaenavon from 11.00am to 2.30pm. they visit the Museum, St. Peter's Church, Wargraves in the parish graveyard, the town's Cenotaph where each child lays a poppy as remembrance. They then visit the Blaenavon Workmen's Hall for a talk on healthy eating and enjoy a WW II dinner consisting of mashed potato, swede, peas & sausages followed by spotted dick and custard. after dinner the children dress up in army uniforms to take part in a drill competition, where prizes are award to the two best drill marchers. In 2004, 15 school classes took part in the experience and 486 WW II dinners were serve and eaten. In 2005, 25 school classes and took part and 715 dinners were served and eaten. During 2004-2005 107 teachers took part in the experience. The Schools that took part were.
